Halloween OC Designed and Crafted for
's halloween contest
I was originally going to draw a picture but realized I didn't have enough time
(it was going to be a picture like this
So, instead, I decided to crochet the main character of the piece.
It seems that Amigurumi is primarily a fanart art form. This is me straying from that a bit. I also wanted to stray from the super-cliche halloween things; pumpkins and black cats and ghosts; that would have been very easy to crochet. I wanted to take a risk, and hopefully the judges at
appreciate that. Because, well, I really want one of those gentleman octopi!
I also wanted to have a bit of fun in between commissions having just completed about 3 (only 1 was posted on DA) but don't worry, I have a few in progress and I'll get back to them right away. d:
So this is Gelther; Hailing from Germany, Gelther is a small impish creature (about a foot in height) resembling a clown. He hides in the woods and is picked up by passers by, as, having gone into a form of hibernation, he resembles a large doll. He awakens slowly after contact. After being delivered to the living premises, he remains limp until nightfall. The exact point of reanimation has not been recorded, but during the night Gelther and his kind are known to creep into the rooms of children and possess them, causing them to murder their siblings and/or parents. If there are no children in the premises, it will mysteriously vanish by the next morning.
It is believed that Gelther is, in fact, a child's play thing that has been overtaken by the spirit of a phsychopath who was captured as a child, which is why it prefers to possess children. The possessed children are never physically harmed during the event. The spirit does not seem to leave the child until after they are captured; they never try to escape. Perhaps this is because the spirit can easily return to the doll and leave unnoticed. The children often go from blank-faced insensitivity to a sudden shock and emotional trauma. They retain all memories of what they had done. The doll is never found. Some photos, however, are.
